Shadow Shot Sunday #15

The Shadow Gallery collages this week feature one photo from each participant from last Sunday, except for two. Apologies to both EmBelISH and Gray Eyed Scorpio for not including your photos. Neither of your photos would open in the editing program I use to create the collages. I'm not certain why but due to both images being smaller than the rest of the shadow shots I'm guesing it's because of the size. I've had this problem before so if anyone has a solution please let me know. Anyway, check out their blogs for their shadow shots and all the other cool things they blog about. Both are fab blogs! Thanks again everyone for playing along! If you'd like to participate in SSS, shoot a shadow, post it on your blog on Sunday (or near enough to Sunday), add your link to Mr Linky, and visit other players. Have fun!

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #15

I've had the flu for the last four days so I've not been up to chasing shadows. This photo was taken the other week at the same time as the lizard photos that I posted last Sunday. I must say that the Roma Street Parkland is a fun place to visit for shadow shooting! Ok that's all from me, I’m now taking my miserable, achy, feverish, snotty self back to bed to quietly die. Winter will be dieing right alongside me. Yes! Winter ends tomorrow. I take great delight in knowing that I will spring back to life long before winter raises its ugly head again. Ha! So take that evil old man winter. It’s all over for you. I win! Sort of. Happy Sunday!

Springy and Spooky

This is the last week of winter! Hooray! It’s starting to feel like spring already, which is making me very happy! I did a couple of Halloween inspired ACEOs to add to my shop, thinking it was Halloween on the 31st of August. I got a little muddled up with the dates and now realise it falls on the 31st of October. Perhaps my confusion is because Halloween isn’t celebrated here in Australia on the same scale as other countries. Actually, Halloween can come & go without many of us even being aware that it happened. I needed some new stuff in my shop anyways, so I’ve just listed six things, including these two...

Scary huh? That’s about as spooky as I get. Oh but wait…

If they sit side by side like so, they are much scarier don’t you think? No? Really? Oh I thought they looked a little spookier. Sigh. The fact that I’m now talking to myself is possibly spookier…

Due to my excitement about spring being just around the corner, I’m planning on having another giveaway on my blog in celebration of the warmer weather. I hope to have it next week but that may not happen because I’m not very organised, and I have no idea what the giveaway will be yet. If it’s not next week it will definitely be in September sometime. That much I can promise! See you in the shadows on Sunday!

Shadow Shot Sunday #14

I’ve had issues with Blogger/Blogspot today with uploading photos. Wasn’t working for the longest time. I’ve heard of other people having the same problems but it’s the first time I’ve experienced it. Oh well, it all worked out in the end. Phew! A Shadow Shot Sunday post would not have been any fun without the shadows! The two Shadow Gallery collages this week feature one photo from each participant from last Sunday. The titles I've given the collages are lines from a Dorothy Parker poem called Midnight. Thanks again to those who played along and for being such a creative and fun bunch of shadow shooters! A big thank you also to those who don't participate but still visit here to check out the photos. That means a great deal to me too! If you’d like to participate in SSS, shoot a shadow, post it on your blog on Sunday (or near enough to Sunday), add your link to Mr Linky, and visit other players. Have fun!

Two shots this time. I prefer the first lizard photo, but really like the way he is looking directly at the camera in the second shot. It was taken about an hour after the first shot and he’d relocated to a sunnier position. Yes I also stalk critters in parklands. He’s almost posing for the photo and if you look really closely (go on, move nice and close up to your computer screen) you’ll see that he is smiling. It's ever so slight, but a smile nonetheless. Happy Sunday!

Urban Wall-Capers (Part 1)

Walking along Doggett Street in Fortitude Valley I stumbled upon some interesting graffiti in an alleyway. I’m not in the habit of strolling down deserted back alleys in the Valley but the artwork caught my eye from the street so I just had to venture down. Curious. With camera in hand. I only managed to take three photos before my batteries died, hence the ‘part 1’ in the post title. I plan to return sometime to take more shots because there was so much more sprayed across these alley walls. I’m thinking of making Urban Wall-Capers a semi-regular, random kind of blog feature. I’m now eager to explore more inner-city alleys with hopes of discovering more interesting graffiti. Of course only if I have my camera with me. As my camera is quite heavy, I’ll be able to whack potential alley muggers across the head with it and knock ‘em out cold should they try and disturb my latest fun, yet pointless pursuit.

Marilyn from Pulp Sushi blog kindly passed this award along to me last week. This means a lot to me because Pulp Sushi has been a favourite blog of mine for so very long now! It was a blog I was regularly visiting long before I started my own blog & I’ve been a devoted fan since the day I happily discovered it. Thanks so much Marilyn! You rock! Love everything you do! xo

I’m meant to pass this award along but it’s all too hard narrowing down faves. So if you pop in here regularly & manage to stay awake through all of my waffling, then you certainly deserve an award. So this one goes to you! It's delivered with my biggest squishiest hugs!

Shadow Shot Sunday #13

My shadow shot this week is a Bubble Babble inspired kind of shot. Sandra had written a most wonderful post recently about her passion for black & white photography, which featured jaw-dropping images from some of her favourite photographers. Thanks for another insightful & inspirational post Sandra! The two Shadow Gallery collages this week feature one photo from each participant from last Sunday. If you’d like to participate in SSS, shoot a shadow, post it on your blog on Sunday (or near enough to Sunday), add your link to Mr Linky, and visit other players. Have fun!

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #13

I received this Tree of Happiness award from the lovely Gina of the fabulous Gingerbread blog last week. Thanks ever so much Gina!

I've no idea what this award says, but I do know that I'm required to list six things that are currently making me happy...

1) My dog Sophie greeting me with such enthusiasm when I arrive home from work. She’s always so excited to see me that she almost does cartwheels. This always makes me happy, especially if it has been a sucky sort of day at work. That kind of unconditional love never ceases to amaze me. Sometimes I don’t feel worthy of such adoration…but I’ll take what I can get…
2) Only 14 more days until the arrival of spring!
3) Only 14 more days left until the death of winter!
4) As much as I loath winter I do love winter food. It makes me happy eating homemade soups (the BEST soup recipe EVER can be found here), and yummy puddings!
5) It makes me happy that I’m able to indulge in puddings galore without piling on the weight. Phew! Lucky genes I guess. A contributing factor could also be that I walk an average of three hours a day.
6) Receiving cool Etsy parcels in the mail this week from these sweet & talented folk, Jellygnite and Beckybean made me happy.

Oh that’s it? I was just getting into the swing of this happy stuff. The rules state to list 6 things only, so it appears I’m done. I can now get back to being my usual crabby self again.

I’m passing this award along to all SSS participants, past and present players, because you guys make me happy too! As happy as a piggy in pudding! Happy Sunday! Oink! Oink!

You Me Us - Radiothon

Smack bang in the middle of the BrisStyle Etsy Ekka Extravaganza sale (sick of me mentioning this yet?) our wonderful Queensland Government has given us a Public Holiday. Fancy that! The Qld government awarding us enthusiastic & enterprising Etsians living in Brisbane a day off! Woohoo! Many Brisbane residents are under the impression that the Public Holiday is in celebration of the big Ekka Show thingy that’s happening right now. I’ll not let those silly ignorant people burst my bubble. Another huge event happening this week in Brisbane is the 4zzz Radiothon. 4zzz is an independent community radio station that relies on passionate volunteers and on subscriptions (memberships) to continue operating, as it receives no other form of funding. The Radiothon is the major fundraising drive that happens every year. If you live in Brisbane and have not yet subscribed, now is the perfect time to do so. Not only will you receive the regular benefits of subscribing (discounts galore at all of the 4zzz sub-outlet businesses around Brisbane) but you’ll also receive cool gifts (CD packs, movie passes etc…) for subscribing during this week. And, you’ll go into the draw to win one of the major prizes. This year they include an all expenses paid 15 day holiday for two to Vietnam, a $750 voucher to spend in the best music store in the world Rockinghorse Records, an annual Dendy Cinema Gold Pass (entry for two people) and a whole lot more! Just don’t pin your hopes on winning that trip to Vietnam because I plan on winning that one. I’m so confident of winning that I’ve already started packing my bags!

The 33 year old station's motto is AGITATE, EDUCATE, ORGANISE, so go and support 4zzz to continue it’s mission: "to be an influential player in increasing awareness of the concerns of marginalised communities, their issues and music." They really are a good bunch of ratbags and appreciate every little bit of help they receive.

Shadow Shot Sunday #12

Shadow Shot Sunday! We had a record number of players last week participating in SSS. Twenty-two! Woo-hoo! Notice how that rhymed? Good. That will count as my poem for this week. The two Shadow Gallery collages were created using one photo from each participant from last Sunday, with the addition of a couple of shadow shots from the archives which hadn’t been collaged yet. I was a little limited with time this week so the collages are more random than they usually would be. Often I play around with the sequence of photos and fuss about. Then fuss some more. I still fussed a little bit, but it was minimal fussin’ this week. I like they way they turned out anyway, so maybe I should continue with the more random approach. Which is difficult for me, as I do like fussing. And making a fuss. Of everything. If you’d like to participate, shoot a shadow, post it on your blog on Sunday (or near enough to Sunday), add your link to Mr Linky, and visit other players. Have fun!

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #12

I’ve been stalking these shadows for quite some time now. I walk past this particular house on my way home from work each day and have been unable to take a photo of them before now because the occupants of the house are always in their yard, or sitting on their deck. I just felt a little weird about taking a photo of their house while they were around and could see me. So I’ve been patiently waiting for them to leave the house. They finally did this week. And they arrived home just as I was in the middle of taking my photo. Eyeing me suspiciously from their car as they pulled into the driveway. Damn it. I snuck in a snap and scampered off.

Just a reminder about the Etsy Ekka Extravaganza Sale that I mentioned in the previous post. It has now started and continues until next Sunday. I’m offering FREE POSTAGE on all items in my shop for the duration of the sale period. Visit the BrisStyle blog for further info and for the list of all participating stores. Shazzabeth has also created a lovely EEE Sale Treasury featuring items from all participating shops. Thanks Sharon! Pluggity-plug-plug! Happy Sunday!

Shadow Shot Sunday #11

Aaarrgh! It’s still cold. I’m still freezin’ my butt off. And there is still almost another month left of winter. Ugh! I’ll refrain from moaning any further about it. Or admitting to how many beanies I’m now wearing. Thinking warm, thinking warm, thinking warm…thinking Shadow Gallery! Yay! The collage this week was created using one photo from each of the Shadow Shot Sunday participants from last Sunday. If you’d like to participate, shoot a shadow, post it on your blog on Sunday (or near enough to Sunday), add your link to Mr Linky & visit other players. Have fun!

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #11

An award...

Many thanks to Ali from Charlie & Grace blog & Jellygnite etsy shop for choosing to pass this Arte Y Pico award along to me. One of the reasons Ali gave me this award was for my 'funny’(?) poetry. So Ali, I chose to show my appreciation and fondness for all that you do by writing a little poem for you. Hope you like it.

Ali, the super blast of a chick of Jellygnite,
more Kraft-ee than a jar of vintage vegemite,
some paper ephemera & a big ol’ bottle of clag
a wiz on the Singer, she’s got sewin’ in the bag!
Creating adorable, cute and cuddly Little Jellies, oh-so-clever!
Kickin’ the butts of those tellitubbies or tubbytellies, or whatever!
Always on the hunt for thrifty retro treasures while op-shopping,
many can be found on Charlie and Grace while a-blog-hopping,
Sweet and so very talented is this sunny BrisStylette!
With the swanky little Etsy avatar difficult to forget!

Told you Ali not to encourage me…hehe. But hey, this one at least rhymes! I’m passing this award along to all Shadow Shot Sunday participants. Past and present players. I realise that some of you have already received this award, but for those who yet haven’t, you have now. You deserve this award for your inspiring & creative participation in SSS & the fun you bring to it. Thanks heaps!

I did promise last week that I wouldn’t post any more of my poetry. I apologise. It seems Harriet tells fibs. Happy Sunday!
