Heres' my Shadow Shot Sunday #135

A nice shadowy border running alongside the netted swimming enclosure on Karragarra Island. An empty swimming enclosure due to it being low tide at the time. I'm not sure about the popularity of netted swimming enclosures in other parts of the world, but they're a necessity for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands for safety reasons because sharks & other creepy crawlies frequent the waters.

As this will be the last SSS post before Christmas I'd like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas! And for those who don't celebrate Christmas I'd like to also wish you a lovely time over the silly season! For those who'll not be going away over the holiday season and are still keen on hunting and sharing shadows, you'll be pleased to know that Shadow Shot Sunday will continue along as normal with the next SSS falling on Boxing Day. Best wishes & be safe everybody. Love Tracy xo

Happy Sunday!

the netting doesn't seem so silly if it keeps ones limbs intact from a shark. it makes for a lovely shadow shot.

merry Christmas tracy! have a blessed week.

M.Kate said...

Haha :) Interesting about the netting...we dont have this problem here as there are no sharks. You have a good holiday and Christmas too. Its very festive here and though its not a major festival but the malls are going all out to entice everyone with a Christmas theme and of course, for people to spend more. Just came back from one..and I dont think I want to go to one for a long time. Have a joyful and beautiful Christmas T :) xoxoxox :) M

Very interesting to see it and the shadow at low tide.
I never quite trusted shark nets in Australia.
Merry Christmas to you, Tracy.

Paula Scott said...

I'm trying to imagine the water at it's 'normal' level. That must be a super low tide? I have never seen a swimming are at the beach fenced off. Good idea, though!
My holiday SSS post will occur next week since we are 18 hours behind!
But, I hope you have a Merry and Happy!

Interesting! Merry Christmas to you and your family, and the rest of SSS. Enjoy your holidays!

When I first looked at your photo, it looked like snow and I said, no, that can't be! It's early summer in Aussie land! Makes for a beautiful beach and the fence is a great idea! Makes a terrific shadow shot as well! Enjoy what's left of your weekend, Tracy, and thanks as always for the shadowy fun!

Merry Christmas to you as well Tracy!
Thanks for all you do!
Love your shadow shot! The sand and water look so inviting! Here we are looking at a bit of snow - quite a difference!

Generik said...

Nice shot, but the idea of it is actually a little scary. I love to swim, but swimming with sharks would be a bit unnerving, I'd guess.

Anyway, happy holidays to you!

Catherine said...

have no problem with netting in shark infested waters!! lovely shots and collages as usual Happy Christmas and Greetinggs from Durango in the desrt of Mexico...

It's been a long time since I've swum in the sea.
Hurray for those nets! Sharks and creepy crawlies are not a good thing be swimming with.

Looks like you had nice weather the day you took this photo. I've heard about the storms Australia has been having. I'm sure you all are happy to get the rainfall to lessen the drought. Although, the inconveniences are not so welcomed.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Woody said...

We don't normally have sharks around the mid-Atlantic area and I've never seen such a net. I love to swim in the ocean, so this would be a bit unsettling.

Merry Christmas and thank you for all you do. Shadow Shot Sunday is a fun meme!

Here where it is cold and damp your shot give hope of the spring to come.

The Summer Kitchen Girls said...

...and here we were thinking it was a snow fence hee hee hee!! Guess snow is a bit more fun to keep out than sharks - yikes! Wishing you a fantastic Christmas as well Tracy!

Lovely shot. I like the way the sun is sparkling on the water. Looks nice and warm. Funny but when I was first scrolling down...that white, wet part of the sun looked like snow. I guess I've got snow on the brain.

Ralph said...

Well, the unsightliness of the netting vs. a shark’s smile...don’t have to think about too long! Oz beaches are beautiful! Happy holidays!

Patti said...

Hi Tracy!
I didn't say Merry Christmas on my post today because I am soooo not ready for the holiday season. Going back out to shop this afternoon.

I've never seen netting like that on the East Coast. Wow the beach looks beautiful. The sand is so white!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! Thanks for all that you do to keep this meme going.

Tracy girl : ) Happy Holidays (I think that is the politically correct way of saying Merry Christmas ?LOL)
Hey .. that is a terrific shadow shot and of course i have to be curious and ASK what are they other creepy crawly things the netting is supposed to keep out ? and .. I am very curious aren't I ? hehe .. anyways the "and" is .. what if a shark decides to bite its way through the netting ? does that ever happen ?? Leave it to me to ask all these questions ??? LOL
Joy wink wink : )

I'm happy you have nets to clear the creepy crawlies from your beaches... I wish we had them here.

;-)

Thank you for adding Ewok to the showcase. I'm sure she's blushing somewhere.

Congrats to the other showcase highlights.

Lovely shot Tracy! Those nets are such a great idea really. Merry Christmas to you XO

Sarah said...

I have snow on the brain and when I first saw your picture I thought it was! How amazing I thought, snow where you live too! Doh! If it is not cold it must be really hot as it is so bright. Nice!

Miss Becky said...

I've taken a long time looking at this photo; there's so much about it that I love. The light on the water, the shadowy lines of the netting, and the wetter spots on the sand. That's what caught my eye at first - the wet sand appearing as a shadow. good stuff. I'm honored to have last week's photo included in the gallery. thank you Tracy. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a new year filled with a whole lot of joy and peace. namaste.

Victoria said...

Oh, seeing this photo makes me long for warm weather! And personally, I prefer a bit of netting to separate me from the sharks, (and other creepy crawlies!)

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas, Tracy!

Cassie said...

I've never seen a netted swimming enclosure like this. Cool Shadow Shot. I've heard they are necessary there. When I used to SCUBA dive one of my dream destinations was Australia. All the fabulous fish(& sharks)in the water...but also the most dangerous in the world.

Merry Christmas to you too, if you celebrate. We'll be with our pooches and daughter & SIL in Seattle for the holiday...looking for shadows!

Sweet Repose-Junk Revival said...

No sharks to worry about here in Iowa, but I hear that the piranha is moving north up the Mississippi R. and is found in some lakes in Missouri, the state down under us and they're adjusting to the colder waters...ewwww, that is pretty creepy too!!!

Have a wonderful week girl, enjoy your summer and send a lil' sunshine to the heartland...WE'RE FREEZING!!!

Kerry said...

Ah, only in Australia :) Thanks for hosting this great Sunday tradition and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.

Great shadows Tracy...happy holidays to you!

Square Peg Guy said...

No need for nets here. They wouldn't keep out the jellyfish that occasionally cause a problem. Even just a stray tentacle can leave a nasty welt.

Besides, our beach season is barely eight weeks long.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the shadows. My shot should post in about 2:45 hours.

Nice shot, Tracy - I love the lacy shadow border that the netting made! And thanks for including me in your Shadow Gallery this week - great challenge :)

Sara Chapman in Seattle, USA said...

I'm all for netting; bring it on! Swimming with sharks doesn't appeal in the least. Tracy, I just love all that sunshine, and just the thought of swimming outdoors is wonderful.

Halie Santos - Dayo said...

Happy Holidays!

The netting is one sure way of helping people keep all their limbs intact. And it also makes an interesting shadow shot too!

Judy Sheldon-Walker said...

Have a very merry Christmas and God bless.

Your shot is awesome. Does the net really help?

Sam said...

How pretty! So summery that bathing fence! Have you been swimming in the ocean this season or are you more of a pool gal? I have promised myself I'm going to go swimming in the ocean this hols!

I'm sorry I haven't been Shadow Shotting it lately - I've sort of run out of shadowy photos!

Hope you're well and that the weather is being nice up there - I think we've been getting the tail end of your Brissy storms - exciting stuff! XOXO

Lily Hydrangea said...

I love to think of you being warm and able to enjoy a nice swim as we are just now entering our deep freeze of the Winter here in NY.
At least somewhere in the world it is warm!
I've never seen a swimming enclosure such as this but it does look like a very good idea. I know there are sharks off of our beaches, but they don't seem to come close to the shore around here at least not that I know of!
Beautiful shadows Tracy.
Thanks for all of your efforts in making this such a fun meme!
& a very Merry Christmas to you and yours too!
: )

Kelly said...

Yikes! I'm not much of a beach/ocean person in part because of those creepy crawlies you speak of! The netting does make an interesting shadow shot, though.

Merry Christmas to you and thanks for using my photo in your collage this week!

What is it about fences and their shadows that we are so drawn to them? Shark attacks having become so prevalent ad me not having to prove to anyone, I'd choose to swim in the enclosure any time in preference to the open ocean.

Thank you for hosting this meme that encourages looking at the world from an other point of view.

Have a safe and happy Christmas.

Love your shot! I think the metting makes for a really cool shadow. And the sparkling sun on the water makes me happy today. It's a little bit gloomy here. Merry Christmas to you! Hope you have a wonderful holiday!!!

I am so bad! I didn't comment! Had a strange feeling I may have missed! Checked through twice and no sign of it!

Love your netted enclosure shadow! The ones I remember in Sydney were lovely slippery old stone walls or huge netting! Sometimes a mix of both! The stone walls were often not so tall and the water washed over the top at high tide anyways!

Hope you have the very best Christmas - the first on your island? SUPER HUGS!
