Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #101


A Bush Stone Curlew skulking in the shadows. I've posted another shadow shot of a curlew with some details about these odd birds on my other blog. Recently I started a daily photo blog where I post photos taken around my new surroundings, so CLICK HERE if interested in having a look. The sooner the better Lisa, otherwise you may find the packet of Tim Tams to weigh a lot less than the 200 grams as stated on the packet! I'm a bit of a piggy when it comes to Tim Tams. Not so with vegemite though. Yuck! But hey, you may like vegemite Lisa. Many Aussies love the hideous black gooey stuff. If you don't like it then you could save it for a camping trip and slather it all over your body to ward off mosquitoes. Just a thought. I've not tried this myself but have heard that it works rather well as an insect repellent.

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #100


The above isn't my 'shadow shot' but a lead into this alternative view I spotted of the buildings...

Still not exactly a 'shadow shot' but the reflection of St John's Cathedral and another building as captured in the highrise block across the road that caught my eye. I like the wonky reflection of the taller building! Some nice city reflections found along Ann Street in Brisbane. And yes, I do occasionally leave my little island hideaway. More than occasionally actually, as I regularly commute into the big smoke for work.

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #99


Some remains from an old wharf at Thompson's Point. The wharf was built in 1865 using local sandstone, and what was crudely referred to at that time as "Kanaka" labour. And a little further along I found this...


A nice old rusty metal shell-encrusted relic resting peacefully in the shadows.
I'm having such fun exploring my new surroundings!

Shadow Shot Sunday #98

Hello! I'm finally back! And what a crazy last couple of weeks it has been. It sure feels good to be back blogging again! Unfortunately I've not had the time to visit blogs yet and I'm way behind in all that has been happening in the blogosphere. So again there is no Shadow Gallery of collages this week but all will be back to normal next Sunday. I noticed quite a few new names participating in Shadow Shot Sunday from the previous weeks during my absence, so thanks to all those newbies for joining in. I'm looking forward to catching up with shadow shooters this weekend. I've missed everyone & it feels like I've been away for ages!

Some sweet welcoming shadows I spotted on the first morning of waking up in my new home.
And then it was time for coffee on the deck...

This is the view from my front deck. To the front of my house and all along one side of it is council zoned conservation bushland. Residing in that bushland is an amazing abundance of birdlife. This island hosts many rare and threatened species and the area is apparently an internationally recognised migratory bird habitat. I've already made friends with a couple of delightful kookaburras! I don't have water views from my house, or even water glimpses, but the ocean is only a short and pleasant 5 minute walk down the road.
