Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #162


This is Gus in the carpark at my workplace. We're not entirely sure where Gus lives but he has been hanging around work a lot lately. It could be due to the fact that we've been giving him bowls of milk. Or I should say that 'I' have been giving him bowls of milk. I like him hanging around but he hasn't yet managed to charm all of my co-workers. C'mon Gus, work harder at weaving your magic! We know his name is Gus because it says so on his tag. He likes his milk steamed.

cotton tree

Here's a new photo print I've just added to my Etsy shop. It's called Cotton Tree and it's a new addition to the Minimalist Botanicals series. I was hoping to share more new shop photos but unfortunately my photo lab had a little mix-up with the order, so this is the only new one I've been able to list in the shop today.


Also I'll be doing a bit of a restock of my cube at the lovely Bleeding Heart Gallery Cafe this week. The photo above was how my cube looked earlier this month when I set it up but it's looking a little different now due to having sold some stuff. Hence the restock. Yay! So if you're in the city and you have this crazy wild urge to purchase a cute little photo block then head on over to Bleeding Heart! There's a great range of all sorts goodies on offer by local artists so it's well worth a visit. And as an added bonus the cafe serves tasty treats & the staff are sweet.

Ok, that's all I'm able to type without my fingers snapping off with the cold. The temperature is to reach a low of about 6 degrees celsius (which equals 42.8 Fahrenheit I believe) tonight. Brrrrr! Yeah I realise that you folk who reside in other parts of the world are probably sniggering at that kind of winter temperature. Snigger away. It doesn't change the fact that I'm cold. I'm so thankful that it doesn't snow here. I fear I'd have no hope of surviving if it did!

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #161


This shadow shot was taken at the Surrealism: Poetry of Dreams exhibition at GoMA during the week. Photography wasn't permitted in the gallery space for this exhibition & I tried really hard to obey that rule. I truly did. And I was doing well up until the point where I saw this big bold beautiful shadow cast on the wall from one the 'surrealist objects' on display. Damn it! My fingers started twitching. To make this less obvious to people around me I slid my hands into my coat pockets. Uh-oh. Now my right hand was snuggled up around my iphone in my right pocket and so the temptation to snap a shot just increased all the more. Double damn it! And then this very dapper looking elderly gentlemen in front of me started to indulge in a little shadow play with his walking cane, creating even more interesting images to tempt me with. Arrrgh! I slowly took the iphone out of my pocket and the gentlemen looked at me. He then looked at the iphone. He then held his cane in place, looked back at me with a smile, and remained in his pose. Willing me to take the photo. As discreetly as I possibly could I took the shot. How could I not!?! I thanked him and he simply nodded and smiled again. It was a sweetly surreal moment in time. It was special. We connected through our fondness and appreciation of shadows. And strangers positively connecting, regardless of how brief the time may be, is a good thing. It's what life is all about people. Reaching out and connecting. Of course you guys who regularly participate in SSS already know this to be true. We experience it with each other all the time. So with that being said, sometimes situations arise that have a far greater importance than following a rule. Yes?

Oh and the exhibition was brilliant by the way! The Man Ray photographs were a highlight for me, and the opportunity to see the Luis Bunuel / Salvadore Dali collaborative 1929 film Un Chien Andalou on a big screen was quite a treat!

And just for fun here is one of my fave Pixies songs which was influenced by the film Un Chien Andalou. Lead singer Frank Black was a big fan of surrealist films.

These photos were taken last weekend while I was out enjoying a bushwalk. Walking is such a nice way to warm up during the winter days. Except really really early in the morning heading into work before the sun is up. That's not so nice...

Here's my Shadow Shot Sunday #159


Some mid-morning shadows decorating a pathway in Southbank that runs beside the Brisbane river. The dark area in the river is the shadow cast from the Victoria Bridge. It was a lovely warm day regardless of the arrival of winter this week.

Sorry for there being no inclusion of the Shadow Gallery this week as I didn't get a chance to create it. Next week it will be back as usual and now that things have thankfully slowed down a little I'm really looking forward to catching up with shadow shootin' blogs again! Woohoo! I've missed visiting you guys!
