gettin' crafty in the city

Well there's just so much crafty goodness happening in Brisbane city this Friday 1st of June. Brisbane crafters sure know how to welcome in the first day of winter in style! BrisStyle are running the Craft Caravan Indie Markets in King George Square from 10am - 4pm. There'll be market stalls, free craft workshops, demonstrations, professional development advice for those seeking it and yarn bombing! Complete with a retro caravan, deck chairs & pink flamingos. So seriously kitschy cool! More details about the event are on the BrisStyle Blog

But wait... there will even be more crafty goodness just around the corner!

The Bleeding Heart Gallery will be celebrating their 4th birthday also this Friday. There will be art & craft markets set up in the courtyard and on the lovely big verandah from 10am to 4pm, special 2 for 1 coffee deals AND free birthday cake!

So, two fantastic all day events happening in the city this Friday. And being in such close proximity to each other means that you can easily hop, skip and jump back and forth from each event all day long! Or you can choose to walk if hopping, skipping and jumping isn't your thing. Although it's just all so exciting that I imagine there will be a lot of hopping, skipping and jumping going on!

my first market

I attended my very first BrisStyle market as a stallholder on Friday night. Luck was not on our side with regards to the weather unfortunately as it was a miserable rainy evening. The first rainy day we've had in weeks! And then back to perfect clear weather the very next day. Crazy! Despite the rain, it was a great night. A big thank you to the lovely folk who braved the wet weather to come visit!

BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets!

Only one more sleep to go...

25th May (5pm to 9pm)

The BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets in the heart of Brisbane's King George Square offer a unique home-grown experience like no other event of its kind in Australia. These Friday night markets combine the laid-back attitude of south-east Queensland with the buzz of Brisbane's CBD to create a lantern lit celebration of local independent art, craft and design.

Meander through the stalls of over 60 emerging and established local artisans who specialise in producing soulful and stylish handmade wares with a unique Queensland twist. With a café, restaurant and bar onsite along with the sounds of Brisbane's premier jazz bands wowing the crowds, this is late night shopping like you've never experienced it!

So support the local Queensland community and shop ethically at Brisbane's HOTtest destination for everything handmade under the stars.

*** Alternate Location in Wet Weather ***
As with all our Twilight Markets if the weather is a little on the crazy side then look for us up on the large undercover Deck located above The Groove Train in King George Square. [all info sourced from the BrisStyle website]

Between painting & creating things I've been drinking lots of coffee lately. Oh who am I kidding? I drink lots of coffee all of the time & not just lately! Fairtrade coffee is my brew of choice though and as it's currently Fairtrade Fortnight in Australia I just wanted to share this cool competition that 3things are running.

Quick! Go enter now. You have until midnight 20th May.

Well, that's all. I hope everyone is having a super week so far!

George

I recently came into possession of some old photos of my grandfather George. George was a musician & artist. George liked to whip out his little trumpet at parties to entertain people. George liked to install impromptu pop-up galleries in odd places to exhibit his paintings. The 2nd photo shows one of his pop-up galleries displayed on the side of a public tennis court somewhere in Pittsburgh. Sadly I never met George. I’m sure had I met George I would've really liked him.

Diggin' That Beat Hepcat ~ Wood Photo Block

I've been on a bit of a wood photo block making rampage of late and have listed a few ready-made ones in my Etsy shop. With the assistance of a little bear. I also have a custom photo block listing where you can choose your own photo. The bear wasn't around when I listed that one. He was at the park flying kites with his friends. Or so he claims. He came home smelling like caramel popcorn...

sweet sunday

Artworks by Jack Oudyn

More amazing artworks by Jack Oudyn

I headed to Cleveland to visit the Redland Art Gallery today for the opening of the Mind Mapping exhibition. "Jack Oudyn records his memories and experiences of the world in visual diaries and artist books. Mind Mapping presents a selection of Oudyn's intimate drawings and collages spanning 20 years. The drawings explore themes of travel, work, health, news events and memories." ~ [excerpt from the Redland Art Gallery exhibition program]. I wholeheartedly recommend checking out this exhibition if you're not too far away from the Cleveland area as it's well worth a visit. It's on until the 18th of June, but if you can't make it along you can always pop on over to Jack Oudyn's Etsy shop where he has a range of his delightful art-flavoured little books available!

Next up was a stroll around the Cleveland Village Markets

Then a visit to The Old School House Gallery. It was quaint.

Lunchtime! Cleveland Point was the destination!

And Fish and Chips the choice of the day!

Oooh hello dessert!

Enjoyed a double scoop vanilla bean and coffee gelati combo. Super yummy!

Sharing some of the new art prints that I've just added to my Etsy Shop. These prints have been reproduced from some ink wash style paintings I did recently.

And a pinch and a punch for the first of the month! It's the third month into autumn, so winter is now just around the corner. Far from my favourite season of the year but I do look forward to indulging in lots of yummy homemade soup!

In fact I've made a start on the soup season and have some pumpkin soup in the slow cooker right now. And it's smelling oh-so-good! Can't wait for dinner time!
