Abba-Dabba-Do!

I went to see the movie Mamma Mia yesterday. This movie was not of my choosing as I had no interest whatsoever in seeing it. I’ve never been a big Abba fan or a fan of musicals on the screen in general. The storyline was far from riveting with a flimsy thin plot, the directing haphazard, the singing cringe-worthy (especially Pierce Brosnan! Yikes!), and the choreography was terrible. But I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of this ridiculous movie! The experience was like viewing an english language version of a bollywood movie set on a Greek Island. 108 minutes of hilarious super cheesy mindless fun was had. So do I recommend this film? Yep! I doooo, I do, I do, I do, I do, I doooo! ABBAsolutely fabulous! I’ve been belting out Dancing Queen into my hairbrush ever since seeing the silly thing.

I’ve finally added some new things to my shop. Yay! The above are four pics of the six original paintings on canvas stretchers that I’ve just listed. I’ve been reluctant to list paintings on canvas before now because I thought the postage would be too steep. Recently I posted a painting overseas to a friend as a birthday gift and discovered that the international postage wasn’t as high as I’d imagined. It’s certainly still higher than I’d like it to be, but not quite as crazy as I first thought. So I’ll see how they go. If nothing else they’ll spruce up my shop with more colour and make it look prettier. I’m happy about that! I’m also happy about having another exhibition coming up. It’s in less than two weeks. And I’m less than half way finished preparing for it. Aaaarrrgh! So I’d better get to it now. If only I can manage to ditch my hairbrush for a paintbrush. Nah, all good. I have two hands! Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine, OH YEAH…

Funny how the cast in that movie just doesn't seem right..When I saw it advertised, I thought they were all wrong for the parts..Guess it worked out well..

I agree with you about the casting of the movie. They did all seem wrong for the parts & that in a weird way for me worked. It was a case of the whole movie being so bad it was good :D
...you can dance. You can sing! (is that right? I haven't seen the film yet...I'm really excited to...I love silly!)

I Love Love Love your new paintings!! But oh I just realized there are more new than these 4...got to get over to your shop and see then all. My favs of the 4 are painter dude(?) aand record girl. But the couple with the strips are awfully cute too. Hmmm...Christmas...

I LOVE your paintings on canvas, and I love the fact that you can hang them as is! They look really nice!

One of my favorite movies "Bridges of Madison County" stars Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. I haven't seen Mamma Mia yet, I keep hearing mixed reviews on the movie. I'm glad you gave it a good one, I might go see it now! I do love Abba, great dancing music!

I would be fine if I go through life NEVER seeing this movie. Although I must say your new pieces are ADORABLE!
"The experience was like viewing an English language version of a bollywood movie set on a Greek Island." How can I *not* see it now, after reading this description!

I saw that movie last night with my mom and I agree Pierce was a little bit of a stretch for the singing haha. I LOVED THE MOVIE. One minute I was laughing, the other I was crying. I thought it was really well done and VERY well cast.

This is so funny!
I went to the revival of "South Pacific" the other day and have been singing away since - much to my husband's horror!!!
I think it's good to take delight in silly, cheery, lovely songs.
GO FOR IT!!!!

Oh, your paintings are just terrific! Absolutely delightful!

As for the Mamma Mia... I cringe at the thought of Abba, and yet found myself really wanting to go see this movie, too, based on the commercials. I read the news review though, and it basically seemed to say what you have said... all around awful movie, really dreadful, sloppy and over the top, and yet loads of fun to watch! Huh? I thought, and decided not to see the movie as I wasn't sure if I could trust a review that seemed to contradict itself so much.
(I mean how could a movie be that awful, yet wonderful at the same time? Obviously the reviewer was drunk.)

But, now that you have reiterated the same sentiment as the paid professional, (and I trust you more!) well, I have more faith that I should indeed see this movie, and risk having Abba songs permanently stuck in my brain!

I'm having a difficult time thinking of the Tracy I have come to know over the past months, sitting through and then LOVING a movie based on "ABBA" music... I guess miracles DO happen... purely random bliss... GOOD to know!!! Glad you had fun; hope you haven't whapped little Sophie with your mich---er--- brush, while you've been beltin' out "Dancing Queen"... (Does Sophie howl backup by any chance? She'd HAVE to sound better --and LOOK BETTER-- than Brosnan). xoxo Karen

Oh my..I saw the MM preview on the movie show and cringed..if Pierce Brosnan is worse that Meryl Streep..I can't imagine how bad he must be LOL..I enjoy ABBA but don't know if I could stomach it..glad you managed to enjoy it..maybe I would be proven wrong too :) Will prob get it out on DVD eventually!

Your paintings are so cool!! My fave would have to be the Outdated singles..it has special meaning to me!! ..but I love them all, you are one clever chicky!
Best of luck with your upcoming exhibition..I'm sure you won't need it :) Catch you Sunday!

p.s. "Put down that hairbrush Tracy" haha

These paintings are fantastic - love the Sparse Palette one!!! And you've made me want to see the movie now - although I don't need much of an excuse to see any sort of musical really. Bring on those showtunes :P
