The winner of the SSS #100 Super Secret Giveaway is #38 participant from last week:

Lisa's RetroStyle

Congratulations Lisa! Your prize is an Aussie themed pack containing a book called Australian Quirk (jam packed with fun kitsch photos!), a packet of yummy Tim Tams, a jar of delicious rosella jam, a set of Aussie postcards, and a tube of vegemite. Just get in touch with your details so I can post your pack to you asap. The sooner the better Lisa, otherwise you may find the packet of Tim Tams to weigh a lot less than the 200 grams as stated on the packet! I'm a bit of a piggy when it comes to Tim Tams. Not so with vegemite though. Yuck! But hey, you may like vegemite Lisa. Many Aussies love the hideous black gooey stuff. If you don't like it then you could save it for a camping trip and slather it all over your body to ward off mosquitoes. Just a thought. I've not tried this myself but have heard that it works rather well as an insect repellent.

Many thanks everyone! I really wish that I could have given something to all SSS players. Here's a little consolation prize for everybody. I'll sing the original 1949 penned Vegemite advertising jingle for you.

We're happy little Vegemites
As bright as bright can be.
We all enjoy our Vegemite
For breakfast, lunch and tea.
Our Mummies say we're growing stronger every single week
Because we love our Vegemite.
We all adore our Vegemite.
IT PUTS A ROSE IN EVERY CHEEK!
We're growing stronger every week.

Huh? What's that? You couldn't hear me singing? That's odd...oh...I now see what's happened. I forgot to plug my microphone in. Well, the fact that you couldn't hear me singing just made that gift much sweeter!

Happy Sunday!

Lovely bird. And now I've got a bit of a Brian Eno lyric running through my head: "while miles below, the curlews call from strangely stunted trees".

That jingle is awesome. They really don't write them like that anymore, do they?

Beautiful shadow shot as always, Tracy! Hope you're having a great weekend -- well, as soon as you get up!!

Sylvia
Well HOLY C**P!! I never win anything!!!! I can't believe my luck! Thanks so much Tracy...and don't eat my Tim Tams!

I've never had any of the food stuff and look forward to trying it all. I might actually like the Vegemite...seeing that it is made by Kraft and is gooey stuff in a tube (sadly I seem to be rather fond of gooey foods...I'm thinking of Kraft's cheeze whiz). Although black seems a stange color for food...that's a little off putting. Maybe I'll make Kevin have a taste first;)

Very excited to see the Australian Quirk book...I sure do love me some kitsch! The postcards look awfully cute too...little sandy butts:-)

Thanks again and I'll send you an email with my address post-haste.

Looks like you were skullking along rather closely with that little bird. I love the shot of him on the Daily Photo post too. And I really like his other names "Bush Thick-knees" and "Screaming Woman Bird". His cries at night must be really creepy!

Ok, that's a really long comment so I'll hush now.

Thanks again:D

great bird shot - and i like vegemite although one of the funniest things I ever saw was when I was sailing in the Whitsundays - a French guy mistokk the brown gooey stuff which was just in a bowl for the very sweet Nutella - slathered it all over his bread and took a bite - his face was a priceless picture!! have a great weekend and Greetings as usual from Mexico!!
Curious expression on the curlew's face... were you singing the advertising jingle while photographing :)

Nice visiting, as always!
Kindly, ldh

Great up close shot of the curlew! He seems to love wandering the shadows!

Fabulous shadow shot! I love Timtams ..... but not so keen on vegemite - which an Australian man gave me a taste of on toast for breakfast one day in Indonesia .... I'm saying no more!!
Anonymous said…
And here's me thinking vegemite was a New Zealand thing!
Can't beat good old Marmite though, even if everyone outside the UK (and quite a few people inside) hate the stuff.

I have never seen such a bird, residing on the wrong continent :>) He looks like a Roadrunner in Arizona, a long legged and elegant, and perfect for SSS. I think of that old song 'Down Under' where "he took a bite of my Vegemite sandwich". I sounds like a repellant though...

Great shadow shot. Glad to learn of your other blog. It has some really wonderful photos.
What a beautiful picture and checked out the other pictures too.
Wonderful. What a lovely place to live..Much happiness to you..
Happy SSS..

LOL really liked "hearing" you sing that vegemite song! Great gift for Lisa, Lisa congratulations!
Nice bird that bush stone curlew, kind of disappears in the shade.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Oh Tracy! I love your new blog! I loved having a sticky beek at your island home! So pretty!

This guy is such a character - I don't think we get them down here although I could be wrong. I never see them, however, and I am pretty keen on birdies so I think I'd know if I'd bumped into him!

Sydney is very wet today - but it's really lovely actually - a nice change from that heat and humidity of the never ending summer we've just had. It will be winter in another week or so and I'm still wearing T-shirts! What about Brissy? Is it cooling a bit?

Hope you're having a lovely long weekend sweetie! XOXO's

What a cool birdo! Those spindly legs are a work of art!! First time I ever heard of vegemite was from that song, We Come From The Land Down Under.(Not sure if that's the name, but it had that in the words.) Happy SSS.
Patti said…
Laughed at your suggested use for the Vegemite. Mosquito repellent indeed! I didn't know it was black. YUCK, I say.

I've never heard of a curlew. I always learn something when I visit you, Tracy.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Wow, I really like the photos on your new blog - way to go! But I didn't see a way to leave a comment there :(

I love the quirkyness of Curlews, I know they are not our strangest bird - but they are still pretty bizarre!

What a funny looking bird! I loved looking at your other blog. The photo of the marching blue crabs is wild!

chuckles... Vegemite. I've heard of it, but I've never actually seen it or tasted it. It's the stuff of legend!

My shadow shot will feature a small rainbow this week. It should post in less than 3 hours.
JCelestial said…
Vegemite... requires somewhat of an aquired taste, that or you need to be raised eating the stuff.. as we are here in Australia. Great as a quick on the go lunch in a sandwich with plastic cheese. Normal cheese is no good it has to be the plastic type, in white bread and spread with butter. Great on toast for brekkie, half butter and half vegemite. Fold and eat. Yummo!
I wonder how you will sleep at night! The curlew does not look a happy bird, unless he sensed your presence. Look forward to seeing more of your habitat, besides the birds!
Why Tracy, what a lovely voice you have. Absolutely plug in the mic and give us a sound file!

So happy you are back after that long hiatus. Now I'll go check the other blog. Can't wait to see your new digs.

Interesting looking bird-kind of shadowy in itself as it looks well suited for camouflage. I shall have a look at your other blog too. The vegemite poem is funny! I once saw Natalie Imbruglia talking about tam'tams-I think they are very similar to English Penguin biscuits. I love the little things!
Alexa said…
I'm still completely addicted to your meme, but doubt seriously I should ever become addicted to Vegemite! Love your lovely, lurking little curlew . . .

I love the Bush Stone Curlew who appears to be skulking in the shadows. He is adorable!

I have heard of Vegemite but have never actually seen it, or tried it. Must put that on the bucket list!

Odd little birdy! How lucky Lisa is to win all those goodies! Your new blog is wonderful and that island looks like a little slice of heaven. Was funny to read that you don't have any traffic lights there!

Firstly.....so glad Lisa won your secret giveaway!! Secondly, I am even happier (ok...over the moon actually) that she gets to taste Vegemite!!! Oh, I tell you, she will be thrilled to the max..it's an acquired taste. You should've told me it wards off mosquito...that was a good alternative as I am always in the garden at night, instead I ate all those vegemite you sent earlier haha!! It's ok...the taste..similar to Marmite here :) Hugs.............M

Congrats to Lisa... What fun is this package! And there seems to be little hint of fun & whimsy in the shadows this week... wonderful photos! Happy Days, Tracy :o) ((HUGS))

WOW! I've just been checking out your new blog! How do you get to live on an island like that? It looks like paradise. The curlew is very sweet and kind of spooky looking. I gather it's womanly screeches during the night are not altogether appreciated??
