60 Watt Fish Luminaire

I wasn't planning on participating in Illustration Friday this week because I'm desperately trying to finish a set of paintings in time for an exhibit starting next weekend. Even though I've had sufficient time to prepare for it, I ALWAYS leave things until the last minute. However, when the Illustration Friday topic landed in my inbox I couldn't resist playing. The topic this week being FAIL. A topic very close to my heart, and I thought it would be a fun distraction. Oh joyful procrastination. Yay! So I briefly abandoned my paint brushes & picked up my sharpie & coloured pencils & did a little doodle.

Inspired by this rather silly joke that never fails to amuse me...

"How many surrealist artists does it take to change a light bulb?"
Answer: A fish

Ensure electricity supply is switched off before inserting the bulb. Failure to do say may cause the little fishy to fry.

Now this explains everything... I had a burned out bulb to replace today, but no fish handy! No wonder it didn't work out right! Love your illustration....hope the momentary 'lapse' into Sharpie and colored pencil world helped ease the anxiety, and you are back to blissfully painting away!!!
(Is the faithful assistant's tail wagging? Sophie treats all around!)

cute doodle harriet! I've another silly joke for you:

how many surrealist artists does it take to change a lightbulb?

two. one to hold the giraffe & the other to fill the bathtub with brightly coloured machine tools.

hope you will be blogging about your exhibit. good luck with finishing everything on time.

hahaha oh man, i can't wait to tell that joke to everybody i know.

on another note, guess what - you're tagged! (sorry! and no pressure of course - i know these things get around)

But if you do choose to participate, here’s how this game of tag goes:

1. Link to the tagger.

2. Share 7 random or weird facts about yourself.

3. Tag 7 people, post their names and links to their blogs on your blog.

4. Tell the 7 people you tagged by posting “Tag you’re it” on their blogs in their comments box and explain the rules to them.
Snicker...

Love the illustration!

That joke reminds me of a riddle my mom once asked me which has no punch line.

"what's the difference between a headlight?"

anyways, awesome lightbulb doodle.

Oh that's hilarious! I bought a card the other day with a vintage looking woman on it and she's saying " Some people think I have ADD..oh look, a chicken!!" I almost peed my pants laughing. There should be surrealist joke cards out there too :)
really fun illo Harriet!
hehe, wonderful :-D

This is funny! I like the expression on the fish and the idea of the whole illustration. Does that make me sick? I hope not. Actually, most likely NOT because I really didn't think of it in the first place. Hmmm...
