The importance of bees


It gives me so much joy to sit in the garden and listen to the buzz of the bees and observe them frolic from flower to flower. From the honey bees through to the various types of native bees. I try to ensure that there is always a constant and abundant source of bee friendly plants growing in the garden because it's important that we all play a role in the survival of these important critters. They're more than important, they're essential. An estimated 65 percent of Australian agricultural production is dependent on bee pollination. That's two-thirds of your produce. And that's not even including the beautiful honey that they make! So if we all take some steps towards assisting and encouraging the population growth of bees it will be a very positive thing indeed. A couple of simple ways to help both the bees and the environment is to use alternatives to chemical fertilisers and pesticides around your garden and to grow a variety of bee friendly plants.
