roofography: post code 4101

West End (post code: 4101) "Just beyond South Bank and within walking distance of the city, West End is a lively mixture of cultures. It has long been home to migrant and indigenous communities, and in recent years as been redeveloped. You'll find a diverse range of cuisines in restaurants, take-aways and coffee shops along Boundary Street and surrounding areas. The West End / Dutton Park area is just across the Brisbane River from Toowong and St Lucia, which makes it a popular spot for university students to live."
~ [Brisbane City Life website]

Here are some West End roofs. Or rooves? I'm not quite sure what the plural of roof is. I think the correct spelling is roofs but pronounced rooves. Or maybe I just made that up. Oh I know! I'll call them rooftops!

And here is where I confess to having a bit of a nerdy obsession with rooftops. I so enjoy walking around taking photos of rooftops! Old corrugated iron ones being my favourites! So by way of feeding my obsession I plan to do a semi-regular random series of posts featuring rooftops that appeal to me around Brisbane.

This is a fantastic idea for a series. Those last two photo are breathtaking! You've inspired me to take notice of rooftops from now on!

I missed out on posting my shadow shots on the weekend so I have a growing stockpile for the coming weeks!

I don't think a roof obsession is strange (I like post boxes and old gates/gateposts) (and Sarah - Circles of Rain - likes rusty things!!) The blue of the sky is wonderful - it was a bit grey and wet this afternoon!

I like your rooftops very much. I can see the attraction and the blue sky such a backdrop! Margaret Gosden

I love your roof shots, absolutely fantastic idea, they make me feel as if I am flying in a dream. I dream a lot of flying over rooftops, in fact painted a painting on the subject.
Lovely entry, as always, a pleasure for the eyes.

Nice rooftops. I'm sticking with that word as well. I'm not entirely sure what the exact wording is to pluralize roof. I do like these pictures.

Oh wow Tracy, I love these shots! I know what you mean about roofs. I mean rooves. I mean rooftops....whatever. My favourite type is the old coloured corrugated iron. Red ones and Green ones are the best I reckon :)

my barbaric yawp - I tried visiting your blog but couldn't access it due to it being private, so I'll answer your question here in case you pop back. Yes of course use the word 'roofography' if you like. Go for it! Thanks so much for visiting! And I love the 'my barbaric yawp' name. It's funny, I almost used that Walt Whitman quote for this post. How freaky!

love your roof top shots T..I can't get over that blue sky, we've been having minor floods down here this week, not a trace of blue to be seen!
A good friend of mine lived in West End for several years..she's back here now..but was a 'west end girl' for a while..can't get that song outta my head now ;P
I've gotta say I'm rather attracted to "rooves" myself. I love interesting lines and I too am partial to metal. What a clever inspiration for semi-regular posting:) I will be looking forward to seeing the rooftops of Brisbane!
I'm wondering why those things are standing up like that on the last roof?!

Fabulous subject matter, Tracy!
The white vine covered chimney and the white Mediterranean looking "Zapeion" are my favs. That blue sky is also perfection and I love the quote. Great job!

My first thought was that you could probably make this a meme - look how unusual and original your shadow shots meme is and how popular it is!

You have a very different and very interesting eye for things I love that!

Oh I know - you could do an "up high and down low" meme - photos of roof tops or the tops of anything or shots of things on the ground or taken from ground level perspective. I know I'd play :-)

Uh oh....Harriet's done lost her mind. She shouting from the rooftops! ;)

Great shots. Love the deep blue sky.
I love the fourth and fifth of these especially. It is amazing how some lovely old roofs top ugly new facades.

I was told 40 years ago that "rooves" was "archaic".

Love, love this post Tracy! Thank you for sharing these lovely images - look at that sky!!!
As a fellow roof-lover, I also love the photos of Ansel Adams - his corrugated roof ones especially.
have a happy week!
