Nick Cave at QPAC. Hooray!

Nick Cave: The Exhibition. Finally it's here! I heard about this exhibition happening in Melbourne last year and I've been waiting patiently for it to arrive in Brisbane. It arrived to QPAC and opened yesterday in QPAC's Tony Gould gallery space. I was there before the doors had even opened. Yeah I know I'm kind of tragic. But hey I wasn't the only one! The exhibition explores “behind the scenes” of iconic Australian musician, songwriter, artist, author Nick Cave. It features displays of original lyrics, notebooks, diaries, artwork, photography, and rare and previously unreleased film footage. A couple of the highlights include the original manuscript of Nick Cave’s book, And The Ass Saw The Angel, and the selection of flyers, fanzines and posters dating back from the late 1970s to the present. This touring exhibition is drawn from over 800 items generously donated by Nick Cave to the Performing Arts Collection. It’s brilliant! It’s free admission! And I highly recommend it! You can view the online documentary here if you’re interested.

Nick Cave: The Exhibition - 24 March to 9 May 2009 (Tuesday to Saturday) QPAC, Tony Gould Gallery

A selection of some of my beloved Nick Cave CDs. I'm listening to one right now! Did I mention I was a fan?

Well, I obviously have been living in a cave, but not the Nick Cave cave, as I haven't heard of him before. I need to get my head out from under the rocks and see what all this Nick Cave adoration is about! So happy that you got to experience this!!

How fun for you! I watched the video and listened to some of his music elsewhere on line. Interesting fellow. I can see the attraction. I too live under a rock...and have not heard of him before. Thanks for sharing him with us rock dwellers:)

I'm also a massive Nick Cave fan! Have you seen him live Harriet? He's an amazing performer. I'd be interested to know what your favourite Nick CD is? I prefer his earlier stuff to what he's doing these days.

Seeing the private work of an artist you love, well it doesn't get any better than that, except seeing them. It sounds fabulous.

Well, you can tell the gals who were born during WWII - we're the ones who look at Nick Cave and say, "Who's that?" I'm still coming to terms with the fact that my teenage idol Johnnie Ray was gay. All those wasted screams.

Yes I've seen him in concert about four times and he never disappoints. I love his energy! 'Tender Prey' would be my all time fave Nick CD. So yeah, I also prefer his earlier music :D

I'm so glad you've reminded me that this is on at the moment. I'm not as big a fan as you are but I do have a copy of 'And the Ass saw the Angel' which I read over and over in my early 20's. I've missed so many exhibitions lately but I'm going to try really hard not to miss this one.

Happy listening :)

I have never heard of him, but I shall check him out. I am always looking for good music!
You sure do have a wonderful collection..I have to admit, I don't know who he is, but the "old hag" that I am, wouldn't know him..
I am still listening to Glen Miller.

Okay, I'm jealous. Looks like a great exhibition. The Nick Cave show I saw back in 1990 is still one of the best shows I've ever been to.

I'm also a rabid fan and wannabe groupie, as you can see from my profile pic. I'm absolutely glowing. Best. Night. Ever.

Wish I could see the exhibition, but thanks for the link!
