Buddha Birth Day Festival


The Buddha Birth Day Festival is a celebration of the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha, who was born over 2,500 years ago in India as Prince Siddartha. This annual Brisbane event is held each year in the Southbank Parklands and the organisers claim it to be the largest event of this type in the world. Judging by the crowds I wouldn’t disagree with the claim. The aim of the festival is to promote peace and harmony in our society and multi-faith interaction amongst people from diverse backgrounds. This fun (and free!) 3 day event included multicultural performances, displays, various activities, and a large international food fair.











The festival also included lots of lanterns. When I uploaded my photos I discovered the majority of them were of the lanterns. I'm not quite sure what that was about. It seems I have an obsession with lanterns!

Wonderful shots of an interesting event. I seem to get obsessed with certain things too when I take pictures. I do like the lantern photos best though.

I like the lanterns shots best as well

I know that I'm drawn to lines and angles when I photograph objects

I think being drawn to the lanterns means you're always looking up :)

I am always enjoy seeing Buddha. All the statues they have with him,
are wonderful. I have a little Buddha for travel, one of my girls got it for me.
A little peace and harmony sure is needed in this world..What a great festival..wish I was there.

That looks like such a fun festival! Love all the lanterns and can understand yur obsession with them. I like Chinese New Year for the same reason! Hope Buddha enjoyed the birthday celebrations as much as you did Harriet. Fun post!

You know T, I do remember your Buddha post from last year and time does fly way too fast doesn't it. We have Wesak Day, or Buddha's Birthday. Good news is it's a public holiday and the not so good news is, it's a Saturday and it's a non working day for me...Don't you just love the colors? Have a good week..ah well, weekend's very near and I am jumping for joy soon. Enjoy the week and don't spend too much time collaging..I know I'd go bonkers if I had to link more than 2. BTW, white coffee is a special type of coffee, not albino beans...just that they way they make it seems white and taste very good. Sort of a local cappucino..I think. I buy you a cuppa when you are here/hug.................M

Just looking through his photos it felt that I was in asis...the colors and the people...and the lamps yes they're wonderful...you'll have to go on a buying trip and bring some back...they're quite inexpensive over there...

Great idea for a festival! Wish we had one here in Melbourne! Perhaps each capital of Australia would be an even better idea!

My niece who lives in Korea went to the Buddah Birthday festival there . She has lots of pictures of lanterns as well. I think there is something about them. You cant help yourself!
